Dude what can I say, I'm stoaked!

I caught a behind the scenes of this movie once when I was with my Grams. I had never seen the movie, and somehow I think she's managed to see nearly every movie ever made, she had a lot to say about this movie. All I really remember about what was said was how serious Sean Penn was about becoming his character. On set, even when the cameras weren't rolling he would only answer to Spicoli which was also the name on the door to his trailer.

After having watched the movie:
(Possible spoilers below)

I had kind of wished I could have taken and watched this movie while on the road to and from Ohio rather than Babel or Monster's Ball. I really liked the movie because I thought it was fun and easy to watch. It was also pretty awesome to see people like Sean Penn, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Judge Reinhold, Forest Whitaker, and Vincent Schiavelli in some of their earlier roles.

As I had mentioned earlier that Sean Penn went to great lengths to become Spicoli, it has made me wonder if he is purely a method actor and has to go through this entire process with every role. I kind of role my eyes a little at method actors, they're kind of strange, but if it's what is working for Sean Penn then I tip my hat to him. Spicoli, though his role in the movie isn't exactly crucial to the story, carries a lot of the movies weight. It's really no wonder so many people have gone on to consider Spicoli, both the character and Sean Penn, one of the greatest characters from a high school movie.

Final thoughts: I didn't know why I was really surprised that I liked this movie so much until I realized that Amy Heckerling had directed the movie. Amy has managed to find a way to perfect high school movies and teenage drama, let's not forget she would go on to write and direct Clueless. In fact, there aren't many movies that she has directed or wrote that I don't like.
