Avatar (Two-Disc Blu-ray/DVD Combo) [Blu-ray]

Dear World:

I'm that one person out of 6 billion who hasn't seen Avatar. Despite what you might imagine, I assure you, I am not a hermit and I don't live under a rock somewhere in the Dark Forest. I've just always thought that one day I would finally watch Avatar.

Well that day has finally come.

Best Wishes,

Brittney

After having watched the movie:
(Possible spoilers below)

I actually couldn't make words happen for at least ten minutes after the movie ended. I can't believe I didn't see this in theaters! I like 3D, but I don't think I could have handled watching this movie in that format. I feel like it would have easily been too much information for me to process at one time. Secondly, even though I really hate to admit it, James Cameron is kind of a genius or at the very least still knows how to make an absolutely amazing movie.

The only "problem" and again it's kind of one of those small things that leads people to think you're knit picking, was after a while it stopped reading as Avatar and had moments where it read a little like Disney's Pocahontas. Roll your eyes that's fine, because I will absolutely be the first one to admit it is knit picking. The idea that a movie has similar themes as another movie isn't anything new to us, and doesn't bother me. I just think it would have been more interesting to see the Tree of Souls depicted as something other than a willow tree. I think it works, I just wonder what else Cameron maybe considered.

As far as Pandora is concerned though, my bags are packed and I'm ready to go as soon as transportation is available. I loved the first hour of the movie, exploring and learning along with Jake about the planet. I understand why it is there and I absolutely agree that it wouldn't be the same story without it, but I could have done without the war over the world and would have been satisfied.

Final thoughts: Watching this movie makes me really excited to know that the world I live in today is capable of creating such impressive images, from a technological stand point. I can't wait to what is yet to come - I'm looking at you Wil Brooks!

I hadn't seen Avatar until... whatever day Eclipse came out. I saw it that night. But, I had a government teacher in highschool that looked JUST like an avatar!
